How we started

A true Vermont collaboration, Smugglers’ Notch Maple Works maple syrup is locally sourced, 100% certified organic, maple syrup from Craig Walker in Underhill, VT. It’s aged in our award winning bourbon whiskey barrels. Our syrup is aged in these bourbon barrels anywhere from 3 months to a year. During that time the syrup gives up some of it’s sweetness to the barrel and takes on a delicious bourbon flavor.

The result is a slightly less sweet, slightly thicker syrup with a lovely oak and bourbon flavor. It’s Grade A, Dark Robust syrup with rich color and caramel flavor notes. Of course it’s perfect for pancakes or waffles, but our syrup also rises to the occasion when used in a BBQ sauce, a glaze for fish or chicken, added to a cocktail or your morning coffee, or drizzled over ice cream. The possibilities are endless!

Smugglers’ Notch Maple Works Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup is distributed by Smugglers’ Notch Distillery®(SND) located in Jeffersonville, Vermont. SND is passionate about creating small batch, award-winning spirits, one bottle at a time. The distillery is located at the foot of Smugglers’ Notch, a rugged mountain pass in the heart of Vermont’s ski country. Aptly named, the pass was used to smuggle liquor from Canada into the United States during Prohibition.

Passion

The Smugglers’ Notch Distillery story continues with the introduction of this complimentary product line of Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. We age 100% pure Vermont organic Dark Robust maple syrup in our used bourbon barrels and fill various size bottles with the decadent smoky sweet result. To add one more twist to the tale, we then blend our gold medal award winning Bourbon with our Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup to create a quintessentially Vermont Maple Bourbon.

Taking Smugglers’ Notch Maple Works maple syrup yet a step further, in September of 2017 Smugglers’ Notch Distillery will launch a new, limited release, small batch spirit – Maple Rum. Not just any Maple Rum, but a rum that has been aged for 3 years in new oak barrels, 2 years in bourbon barrels, and 1 year in our 100% pure Vermont maple syrup bourbon barrels.  This trifecta barrel aged rum is sure to please.
